Preppy Text #02

How to make this text

You will need:
A Photoshop program

You will be making this:

**Note that all images are clickable to zoom in**

These are the steps…

First you’re going to want to open a new document in Photoshop. I made mine 585×185 pixels.

Next write out your text. Make it whatever font you’d like. I’m using Adleit. Make your text color #000000. Feel free to kern your text at this point if you’d like. You should have something similar to this…

Color your text with your gradient. If you don’t know how to do that click here for a tutorial. Your text should look like this…

Now you’re going to want to right click on your text layer in your layer palette. Select Blending Options and apply these settings.

Your text should now look similar to this…

Next hold CTRL on your keyboard and click the text layer thumbnail. This should highlight your text layer like this.

Go to Select > Modify > Expand and make it 2 pixels. Your text should look like this.

Next go to Layer > New Fill Layer > Solid color. Make your new fill color #EEEEEE. Drag that layer UNDER your text layer.

Repeat the last step. Press CTRL and click the text layer thumbnail. Select > Modify > Expand >. This time make it 4 pixels. This should make the outline 2 pixels beyond the border you just made.

Now go to Layer > New Fill Layer > Gradient. Choose the same gradient you used for your text. Make sure the angle is at 0. Drag this layer below everything. This should make your text similar to this.

Last step. Press CTRL and click the text layer thumbnail one last time. Go to Select > Modify > Expand again and make this one 6 pixels. Go to Layer > New Fill Layer > Solid Color. Fill it with #EEEEEE. Drag this layer below everything else.

Your text should now look like this!
